Mara Embervale

Mara arrived in Brinegate three months ago, following a trail that had gone cold twice already. Her mother, Alicent Embervale, is a Head Researcher of Leviathan Biology stationed in the Outer Tier city of Jakata, or was, until her letters stopped arriving without warning or explanation. When Mara’s older sister Elody went to find her, Elody too went silent. Her last letter said only that she would soon be arriving in Brinegate. She never did.

Mara has pushed every door available to her since then — the research facility, the city government, the gate authorities — and has been met with indifference at each turn. No records. No answers. Nobody willing to say anything useful. The Wall between the Middle and Outer Tier has been an immovable obstacle, and the wet season tightening gate access has made it worse.

She has always struggled with her temper — something deeper than ordinary frustration, episodes that overtake her completely and require outside help to pull her back from. She has learned to read the warning signs. It is one of the reasons she values the party: not just for what they can do, but because they are people she trusts to bring her back when she goes too far.
